Making hay while the sun shines!

I am somehow comforted by watching hay get made. Rich actually helped out, even prepared himself by bringing gloves. HAH! He hasn't helped with enough hay. His bare legs and arms got so scratched!!! You don't make hay with shorts on, dummy! Kathy and I took the dogs for a walk and took pictures. Then we came back and sat on the lawn with our wide brimmed hats on, drinking Mint Juleps and munching on crudite'. Well.........OK, we had a couple of diet cokes and fed the dogs Charlee Bears and had baseball caps on, but which sounds better to you? OK, then!!
That's Rich in the orange hat and Nick (of Red Neck City fame) on the back making deals on his cell phone! His girlfriend Nicole driving the tractor. Nick, sold this hay for $5/bale!! Rich was very impressed with his salemanship! Any other year this hay would not be worth more than $3, it is first cut in mid August and very coarse and lost color. But, this year is a dreadful hay year and folks are desperate. Sadly, because this was cut so late they probably won't get a second crop. Even yesterday there were some very wet spots. Some of the field could not even be cut, yet. It's really been a bad year for making hay.

I am glad I filled up my loft last year and got 100 bales of first crop from my hay growers this year, so far. I wouldn't have wanted this hay. Way too course for my picky girls, but it sure is nice to see my neighbors making hay. It was such a pleasant afternoon, the dogs had great fun visiting Kathy and George, Roscoe raiding Kathy's treat bag (what else is new?), Colby hunting for crickets, George and Spur playing and racing around, George taking off into the prickers, we got him before having to interrupt Nate from his baler to help find him, thank goodness. That George, is so bad! And, of course, our Mint Juleps and crudite'.
